Humanities revolves around the subjects history and english, specifically human society and culture. It can also include the study of languages, literature, jurisprudence, philosophy, comparative religion, ethics, and arts. Humanities is the core of so many majors and jobs for example archaeology, anthropology, human geography, law, fashion design, social work, and politics. It is considered a useful and important career as students are great communicators, thinkers and writers. But what makes Humanities so vital in our lives?
Humanities is what it means to be human. It digs deeper into history exploring how people act, feel and help. The subject trains both sides of the brain to think logically and creatively. Especially during these times, humanities is needed to foster a deep understanding of individual and social injustice. With learning different values through art and history, scholars are able to help everyone understand the great accomplishments of the past, and help us build our present and future.
Educating students about humanities helps empower a moral, spiritual, and intellectual sense of the world we live in today. Students are taught creatively through ethical questions, appreciating cultures, learning about artist’s lives, and reading books from different places around the world. This all helps the younger generation have a clear view of the future. Since the beginning of time, when the ancient Greeks educated their citizens, humanities brought insight to democracy and the liberal arts education. With the saying history repeats itself, humanities helps to understand why, how this happens and to further prevent it.
